Professor Li Zhongmu and Associate Professor Liu Wei from Dali University attended the 2nd International Conference of the Silk Road Astronomical Alliance in Uzbekistan

From May 18 to 22, 2026, Professor Li Zhongmu, President of the Silk Road Astronomy Research and Education Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the “Silk Road AREA”) and Director of the Institute of Astronomy and Information (hereinafter referred to as the “IAI”) ，Dali University, together with Associate Professor Liu Wei, the academic leader of astrophysics at IAI, traveled to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to attend the 2nd Silk Road AREA International Meeting. 

During the meeting, Professor Li Zhongmu delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and presented a plenary report titled “N-body Simulations and Future Applications Based on Chinese GPU Computing Clusters,” which was recognized with the Outstanding Report Award. He had in-depth exchanges with Professor Rainer Spurzem (Germany), President of the Silk Road AREA, as well as the Alliance’s Vice President from various countries: Bobomurat Ahmedov (Uzbekistan), Chingis Omarov (Kazakhstan), M.B.N. (Thijs) Kouwenhoven (Netherlands), Hyung Mok Lee (South Korea), and Hesti Wulandari (Indonesia). The parties reached broad consensus on the development of the Alliance and on international cooperation in astronomical research and education, with a particular focus on the joint establishment of the “Silk Road International Joint Laboratory for Astronomical Big Data”, achieving significant progress.

The Silk Road AREA is an important international academic organization founded in Dali in 2025 by ten founding member countries, with its secretariat permanently based at Dali University. This meeting was the second international academic symposium organized by the Alliance, attracting more than 150 representatives from over 20 countries, including academicians from multiple countries, presidents of national-level learned societies, and heads of astronomical institutions. The Minister of Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Professor Rainer Spurzem (President of Silk Road AREA), and the President of New Uzbekistan University attended the meeting and delivered speeches. This exchange visit has further expanded the academic influence of Dali University and the Silk Road AREA. Furthermore, representatives from several new countries participated in the meeting and applied to join the Alliance, injecting new vitality into its future development and contributing to Yunnan Province's efforts to build itself into a regional hub radiating to South and Southeast Asia.
